Why are we going?

Charlotte Velloso, the organizer, is putting together this pilgrimage as part of her master’s project. Using her background in art history and public history, she will interpret the various pilgrimage sites. Father Gerald Westphal will lead the pilgrims on their spiritual journey, in his role as spiritual director.

The pilgrimage will guide pilgrims through the lived experiences of St John Bosco and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, but it will also place their lives within the broader historical context of the time period. Pilgrims will learn about the history of nineteenth-century Italy, the historical roots of the art and architecture in churches, and the history of the Shroud, which legitimized Turin as a religious center in the fifteenth century.

Pilgrims will have the opportunity to grow in sanctity, all the while discovering Italian history!

In order to set out on this pilgrimage journey, we will need at least 8 pilgrims to sign up and pay their deposit by the March 1, 2020 deadline. If we are unable to reach this number, the pilgrimage will be cancelled and all those signed up will receive a full refund.
